Sergey Vyacheslavovich Lazarev () (born 1 April 1983) is a singer, dancer and actor born in Moscow, Russia. He is most famous for his singing career, when he rose to fame as the dark-haired member of the group Smash!!. The group broke up in 2006. Since then Lazarev has pursued a solo career.

Biography and career

Early life and child stardom

From the age six to nine Sergey Lazarev went in for artistic gymnastics. Lazarev began his acting and singing career before the age of 10, singing in the Lokteus Children Choir. At the age of 14, he had already received his first musical award, won several children's song contests, and ended up as a member of child group Neposedi (Непоседы), the same group in which Yulia Volkova and Lena Katina of t.A.T.u met each other. Also his friend Vlad Topalov (Влад Топалов) joined the group, who later would become the other half of the group Smash!!.

When he was eleven, he sang in the Pokrovsky Theatre, had parts in many plays. In 1995, at the age of 12, Sergey entered the fidgets band, the same year he won the TV contest of children's gold key. As a part of the fidgets group Sergey took part in famous Russian TV programs and contests, such as "Guess the Tune", "Grasp Me", "The Morning Star", "Look Out", "The Blue Light" and "The Slaconic Bazaar". In September 1996 Sergey won the first prize at the contest Bravo Bravissimo in Italy. The same year he sang with the president orchestra led by P. Ovsyannikov.

Acting

In 2000, Sergey entered Moscow's famous Mkhat Theatre School and graduated in 2004 as a professional actor. In 1999 Sergey entered the Russian leading dramatic Institute, the school-studio MAAT, and graduated from in with honors in 2003. As a student, Sergey played the main parts in Pushkinski Theatre's productions of ''Romeo and Juliet'', and ''Karamazov''. For his role as Romeo, he was nominated for a "Seagull" dramatic debut award for the "Best Love Scene".

In 2005 he returned to the theatre scene. His part in the 2005 Broadway-style musical comedy ''Lend Me A Tenor'' brought him five professional theater awards, making the play the biggest success of the 2005 theatre season.

Smash!!

In 2001 Sergey and Vlad Topalov started the boy band Smash!!. Shortly after they were signed by Universal Music Records in Russia and were one of the biggest Russian pop groups in 2002–2003. The duo had five #1 hits, numerous awards and sold millions of records in Russia, CIS and East Asia (including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand) during their brief career as a group.

At the beginning of 2002 the duo shot their first video clip for the song "Should Have Loved You More". That August Smash!! won the 'New Wave' contest in Jūrmala and in October 2002 Smash!! released their first single "Belle". The video for "Belle" topped MTV Russia's chart for 6 months and entered the list of top 20 clips of the past five years. The story behind this song tells about the formation of the duo Smash!!, apparently Vlad and Sergey rehearsed the song as a birthday present to Vlad's father, but after he heard the song he immediately told all his friends and ended up on the radio as one of his friends started playing at a local station.

In February 2003 the band finally released their debut album, ''Freeway''. Over a million discs were sold in Russia and other nations in the Commonwealth of Independent States. Smash!! subsequently toured Russia throughout 2003.

The following year ''Freeway'' was released in East Asian countries including; Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, India, and the Philippines. The release of the album was followed by the promotional tour in the South-Eastern Asia, during which the band shot a video clip for the cover-version of George Michael's song "Faith" in Shanghai.

In May 2004 Smash!! in cooperation with the Italian band Earphones recorded the song "Obsession". When the song entered the radio rotation, it immediately gained the top of hit parades and became the top summer hit 2004. That year Smash!! received the award of the MTV Russian Music Awards (RMA in short) 2004 as the pop-project of the year, and the award of the sound-track as the band of the year.

On December 1, 2004 Smash!! released the second album, ''2Nite''. The band split up only one week after the release, resulting both Sergey Lazarev and Vlad Topalov pursuing solo careers.

Solo career

Together with British producer Brian Rawling, Sergey recorded most of the songs for his solo debut ''Don't Be Fake'' that was released in November 2005 and sold more than 300,000 copies in Russia alone. In May 2006 Sergey received Russia's national Music TV Channel's MUZ TV award as Best New Act. The fourth single from the album "Fake" was released to clubs in the UK, debuting on July 30 at #28 on the commercial club chart in Music Week.

''Don't be Fake'''s first two singles, "Eye Of The Storm" and "Lost Without Your Love", were soon released. The video clips of these singles were shot in Miami and South Africa, respectively.

The third single "Daje Esli Ty Uydiosh (Даже Если Ты Уйдёшь)" ("Just Because You Walk Away" in English) became the biggest single from the album, peaking at #1 for many weeks, remaining on the charts for over six months, coming back to the charts twice more, and eventually reaching #2 in the annual airplay chart of most played songs in 2006. Due to the massive popularity of the song, the album was re-issued with bonus tracks including 3 versions of the song—the English version (which can be found on the first issue), the Russian version, and a dance remix also sung in Russian. Sergey also performed the song at the MTV Russia Awards. The single was written by U.S. songwriter Gordon Pogoda and Australian writer/artist John Stephan.

The fourth single, "Fake", was plugged and the video clip was shot in London. Meanwhile the ''Fake Remixes EP'' was published. This was also promoted to some clubs in UK.

After the success of his first album, Sergey went to the studio and recorded a new Album ''TV Show'' The video for the lead single, "Vspominay (Вспоминай)" was shot in Moscow. The English version of the song, "Everytime", was soon released along with the video clip, this one being similar to the Russian version.

Sergey did a cover of "Shattered Dreams", originally sung by Johnny Hates Jazz. This was the second single of the album and the first international single for Sergey. The video clip was said to be shot in Canada. In fact, a close examination of the video for the song reveals shots of Toronto landmarks (including Yonge-Dundas Square and the neon sign in front of the now closed-down Sam the Record Man) and even a Toronto Transit Commission bus.

The same year, Sergey won the Best Male Singer singer in RMA 2006, defeating Dima Bilan. During the ceremony, Vlad and Sergey got together and sang "Belle" for the first time in years, ending the performance with a hug from the two former best friends.

TV Show (album) was published in Europe in 2007. This was a theme-album talking about TV shows and reality by mostly love ballads. "Shattered Dreams" was in this album together with 11 other tracks, including "TV or Radio" his third single and "Girlfriend" his fourth single of this album. His single Shattered Dreams was released in the UK later and currently available on some online music stores.

In 2008, he tried to represent Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Flyer", but came 4th place, losing to Russian pop star Dima Bilan.

He performed to full-capacity crowds at The Opera House in Bournemouth, England on 23 March 2008. He was supporting UK dance group Booty Luv.

In 2008 Sergey won MTV's Artist of the Year Award. Consequently releasing the video of the Russian version of the song "Almost Sorry", (Зачем придумали любовь) this one being the fifth and last single of the album. Songwriters of the Russian version (Chris Landon, Taryn Murphy, Lara D'elia).

In 2009 Sergey collaborated with artist Timati and made a video of the song "Lazerboy". In April 2009 Sergey promoted "Stereo", the lead single for his third solo album and sang "Already Know" and "Out of Control". All four songs were expected to appear on his upcoming album, but only "Lazerboy" made the cut.

On 31 March 2010 ''Electric Touch'' was released in Russian music stores.

The video for "Alarm" was released on May 10.

On June 26 it was confirmed the song "Feeling High" was the new single from ''Electric Touch''

Other appearances

In 2006 Sergey took part in Russia's "Dancing on Ice", coming in 2nd. In 2008 he appeared in the reality "Circus of the Stars" winning the first place for his performance.

Nathaniel Dwayne Hale (August 19, 1969 – March 15, 2011), better known by his stage name Nate Dogg, was an American musician. He is noted for his membership of rap trio 213 and his solo career in which he collaborated with Dr. Dre, Warren G, Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg on many hit releases. Nate Dogg released three solo albums, ''G-Funk Classics, Vol. 1 & 2'' in 1998, ''Music and Me'' in 2001 and ''Nate Dogg'' in 2008.

Nate Dogg died in 2011 in Long Beach, California of complications from multiple strokes.

Early life

Nate Dogg was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He moved to Long Beach, California when he was 14 following his parents' divorce. He was the friend and partner in the rap game with rappers Snoop Dogg, Warren G, RBX, Daz Dillinger and was the cousin of Butch Cassidy and Lil' ½ Dead. He began singing as a child in the New Hope Baptist Church in Long Beach and Life Line Baptist Church in Clarksdale, Mississippi where his father Daniel Lee Hale was pastor. At the age of 16 he dropped out of high school in Long Beach and left home to join the United States Marine Corps, serving for three years.

Career

Early career with 213

In 1990, Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg, and their friend Warren G, formed a rap trio called 213. 213 recorded their first demo in the back of the famed V.I.P. record store in Long Beach, the demo was later heard by Dr. Dre at a house party and he was instantly hooked on the soulful voice of Nate.

Solo career

Nate Dogg made his debut on ''The Chronic''. Singing in what later become his trademark style, he was well-received by fans and critics alike, and would go on to sign with Death Row Records in 1993. Nate Dogg was also featured on Mista Grimm's "Indosmoke" with Warren G. Then in 1994 he produced his first hit single "Regulate" with Warren G. Nate Dogg was also featured in many Tupac releases, including his collaboration record ''Thug Life: Volume I''. Then in 1998 after a tumultuous time at Death Row Records he released another album. The double album was titled ''G-Funk Classics Vol. 1 & 2'' and was followed up in late 2001 with ''Music & Me'' on Elektra Records. ''Music & Me'' peaked at number three on the ''Billboard'' hip-hop charts in 2001. After a number of delays and an original release date of April 2004, his ''self-titled album'' was released under the ''Affiliated Entertainment Group'' on June 3, 2008.

Television appearances

In 2002, Nate Dogg and Isaiah Mendez appeared on a celebrity episode of the Weakest Link, making it to the last three players before being eliminated by Xzibit and Young MC.

Collaborations with other artists

Nate found success, not only in solo projects, but in collaborations with other hip-hop artists. In the 2000s, Nate's high-ranking collaborative singles, according to Rolling Stone, includes Dr. Dre's "The Next Episode," Mos Def's "Oh No," Fabolous' "Can't Deny It," Ludacris' "Area Codes," 50 Cent's "21 Questions," Mark Ronson's "Ooh Wee," Houston's "I Like That," Eminem's "'Till I Collapse" and "Shake That", and Mobb Deep's "Have a Party."

Legal issues

In the early 1990s, Hale was charged with two separate robberies, Check Changers robbery in 1991 and robbery of a San Pedro Taco Bell in 1994. He faced a maximum of nearly eleven years in prison, but he was subsequently acquitted of both charges.

In 1996, Hale was convicted of a drug-related offense in Los Angeles County.

On June 17, 2000, Hale was alleged to have kidnapped and assaulted his former girlfriend and set her mother's car on fire in Lakewood. He was arrested by a SWAT team at his home in Pomona. He was accused of kidnapping, domestic violence, making terrorist threats and arson. He spent a night in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles before he was released on a $1 million bail. These charges were later dismissed, but Hale faced jail time for a new charge, illegal possession of a firearm by felon. An unmarked firearm was found in his home during the June 17 arrest. Hale pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge, and was sentenced to probation of three years and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.

On April 12, 2002, Hale was stopped by Arizona Department of Public Safety officers outside of Kingman, Arizona while traveling on a tour bus. He was arrested and charged with firearms-related and drug-related offenses after two pistols and four ounces of cannabis were found. Hale was booked on Mohave County Jail and subsequently released on a $3,500 bond. Weapon charges against him were dropped as an exchange to guilty plea to drug possession charge. Hale was subsequently sentenced to probation and community service. He was also ordered to attend drug counseling sessions in May 2002.

In 2006, Hale was charged with misdemeanor aggravated trespassing, telephone harassment, battery assault, dissuading a witness from reporting a crime and violation of a restraining order. In March 2008, Hale pleaded guilty to trespassing and battery and was ordered to complete a domestic violence treatment program, probation of three years, and was stripped of gun ownership rights for the next ten years.

In July 2008, Hale was charged with two felony criminal threats after allegedly sending threatening emails to his estranged wife, and one count of stalking after allegedly chasing her by car on Interstate 405 in previous month. Hale initially pleaded not guilty to these charges, which were eventually dropped in April 2009, because the alleged victim did not contact prosecutors in the case.

Additionally, Hale has a conviction of driving under the influence.

Strokes and death

On December 19, 2007, Nate Dogg suffered a stroke, according to a coordinator for his recently formed gospel choir, Innate Praise. Reports had circulated that Nate Dogg had been admitted to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in Pomona, California after suffering a heart attack. Erica Beckwith, however, confirmed to MTV News that Nate Dogg was released on December 26 after being treated for a stroke and was admitted to a medical rehabilitation facility to assist him in his recovery. On January 18, 2008, it was officially reported that the stroke had rendered the left side of his body paralyzed. Doctors believed there would be a full recovery, and his voice was not affected. In September 2008, he suffered a second stroke. Nate Dogg died March 15, 2011 in Long Beach, California. On March 17, his attorney Mark Geragos confirmed that the cause of the death was from complications of multiple strokes.

Evan Starkman is a reality television star, best known as a competitor on the MTV reality game shows Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat, The Duel, The Gauntlet III, The Duel 2, The Ruins, and The Challenge: Rivals. He won The Duel 2 and The Ruins. Unlike many of his competitors, he never appeared on the Real World or Road Rules; he was discovered at an open casting call and appeared on Fresh Meat in 2006. He hosted the RW/RR Spring Break Challenge in March 2010 with Paula Meronek.

Before appearing on Fresh Meat, Starkman went to college at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where he majored in liberal arts and played club hockey. He was born in Perth, Ontario, Canada and moved to the United States to attend college. He auditioned for Fresh Meat during his junior year, and took a break from school to attempt the challenge.

RW/RR Challenges

Fresh Meat

On Fresh Meat, Starkman was paired with Coral Smith, one of the alumni of the RW/RR Challenges, and quickly became a fierce competitor who was viewed as a threat to other teams. Unfortunately, he suffered from a hernia in episode 5 and he and Smith, who also obtained injuries during the show, were removed from the competition in episode 11. Starkman and Smith won 5 of the 10 challenges they appeared in.

The Duel

The Duel began in late 2006 and ended early 2007, and was Starkman's second RW/RR Challenge. He won 6 out of the 13 challenges he competed in, and was defeated by Chris "C.T." Tamburello in the Ascender duel in the 13th episode. Starkman won four challenges in a row, from episodes 9-12, and was quickly taken into the duel afterwards.

The Gauntlet III

Starkman's Veteran team on The Gauntlet III fought for control of the competition up until the end, and won 10 of the 16 challenges. At the final challenge, however, Eric Banks, a member of the veteran team, ended up in the hospital before finishing the challenge. The rules of the game forced the Veterans to lose because not all of the players in the team finished together.

The Duel II

The Duel II ended with victory for Starkman. This was his first RW/RR Challenge win. He won two of ten challenges, and went into the Duel three times, each time eliminating the player he was up against. He won $100,000 after a close race with Brad Fiorenza to the finish.

The Ruins

This marked Starkman's second win in a row, this time with the Champions team on The Ruins. The Champions dominated the competition throughout its entirety, winning 9 of the 10 challenges. He never appeared in the Ruins, and was accompanied by Derrick Kosinski, Johnny Devenanzio, Kenny Santucci, and Susie Meister in the final challenge. He won a total of $51,293 from The Ruins.

Rivals

Starkman appears on The Challenge: Rivals, which began airing in June 2011. In an attempt to send C.T. and Adam home in the 6th episode, Evan intentionally lost the challenge which automatically qualified him and his partner for the "Jungle" elimination round, where C.T. and Adam would be voted in to face off against them. Evan's plan was unsuccessful after C.T. and Adam went on to win The Jungle and send home Evan and Nehemiah in the process.

Other work

Starkman started a clothing line with friend and previous RW/RR Challenge teammate, Kenny Santucci. The line is called Suck Yeah and debuted in 2009. He also began Branch Out Clothing before Suck Yeah, a clothing company that focuses on sending positive messages into the world - "...When you wear Branch Out apparel you are taking the first step to spreading a positive message. You are joining a movement to change the way people think, the way people feel and the way the world works," and sending most of the profits to charity. The company has featured projects that they promote and donate to regularly.

He has hosted on MTV Canada several times.

Love Trap

Evan Starkman is also the host of the hidden camera dating show Love Trap. Where Evan helps shy romantics "trap" their unsuspecting crushes in real world situations. Season one played to good ratings on Cosmo tv and is rumored to be picked up for a second season.
